Before opening Roots + Roost, I dedicated nearly 25 years to serving my community as a social worker, teacher, and non-profit professional. These experiences instilled in me a deep commitment to service and a passion for fostering connections. When I opened this store, I knew our mission had to reflect these values: preserving the legacies of local residents and actively engaging in the community to give back and build meaningful relationships.
Roots + Roost is more than a store—it’s a place where treasures with rich histories find new homes. We work with long-time residents of our area to ensure their unique pieces are honored and appreciated by the next generation. But our mission doesn’t stop there. We’re proud to actively participate in local events, support community initiatives, and find ways to give back to causes close to our hearts.
Discounts and Events: Supporting the Community Year-Round
We love hosting events and celebrating with our community! Throughout the year, we organize sidewalk sales, offering fantastic deals to help make space for new inventory while giving our customers a chance to find unique treasures at unbeatable prices.
We’ve welcomed realtors and designers to exclusive private showings, showcasing not only the items on our floor but also hidden gems from our extended collection. Every month, we participate in the First Friday Art Walk (FFAW), staying open late for shoppers to explore, enjoy refreshments, and admire local art. Additionally, we’ve celebrated milestones like our first birthday and joined Steamboat’s downtown Halloween event, handing out candy and hosting festivities.
Giving Back: It’s at the Heart of What We Do
At Roots + Roost, giving back is woven into everything we do. Every November, we host a Give Back Weekend, where a portion of our sales supports local non-profits. Last year, we partnered with the Boys & Girls Club to help provide extra supplies for kids during the holiday season. This year, we proudly supported the Veterans Center of NW Colorado, a transformed VFW Hall providing vital social services to local veterans.
Our connection to the Veterans Center is personal. As a veteran myself and the parent of two active-duty sons and a daughter interning at the Center, supporting their mission holds special meaning for our family. We’re honored to curate and donate military memorabilia from our store’s collection to help the Center tell the stories of those who’ve served.
During the holiday season, we participate in the Festival of Trees hosted by the Tread of Pioneers Museum. This cherished event raises funds to support the museum’s mission of preserving Routt County’s history. We delight in decorating a tree alongside other local businesses, sharing the joy and history of the season with our community.
Recognition and Gratitude
Being recognized in this year’s Best of the Boat campaign is an honor we deeply cherish. This annual celebration highlights the best businesses in Steamboat Springs across a variety of categories, and knowing that our community sees value in what we’re building at Roots + Roost means the world to us.
